How it's calculated

The Fair Work Commission sets the National Minimum Wage each year in its Annual Wage Review, as a weekly rate for a 38-hour week and an hourly rate. Part-time employees are paid the hourly rate for their ordinary hours.

Weekly
= hours per week × $26.44 (38 hours = $1,004.90)
Fortnightly
= weekly × 2
Monthly
= weekly × 52 / 12
Annual
= weekly × 52

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum wage in Australia right now?

From 1 July 2026 the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for a full-time 38-hour week, set by the Fair Work Commission's Annual Wage Review. That is $52,254.80 a year before tax.

Who gets the National Minimum Wage?

Adult employees who are not covered by a modern award or an enterprise agreement. Most Australian employees are covered by an award, whose minimum rates for their classification apply instead; the lowest adult award rates were also raised on 1 July 2026 and are published by the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Does the calculator include casual loading?

No. Casual employees receive a casual loading on top of the base rate, and juniors, apprentices, trainees and employees with a disability have their own percentages. The figures here are the adult, non-casual National Minimum Wage; use the Fair Work pay calculator for those cases.

How is the monthly amount calculated?

Weekly pay × 52 ÷ 12. A month is not 4 weeks: a 38-hour week at the minimum wage is about $4,354.57 a month, not $4,019.60.

Is the minimum wage before or after tax?

Before tax. Income tax and the Medicare levy are withheld from it; a full-time minimum wage earner's take-home pay can be worked out with the Pay Calculator.
