Frequently asked questions
Which tax year do the calculators use?
The 2026–27 tax year (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027): the IRD income tax brackets (unchanged since 1 April 2025), the 2026/27 ACC earners' levy, the 3.5% default KiwiSaver rate and the minimum wage from 1 April 2026. Each page states its year and the date it was last checked.
Do the results match Inland Revenue's PAYE tables?
The pay calculator spreads the year's tax evenly over pay periods, while IRD's PAYE tables work per pay period and round, so a payslip can differ slightly. The annual figures use the same published rates. Inland Revenue's calculators remain the official tools.
Why isn't there a calculator for Working for Families or the IETC?
The calculators cover rules that apply to everyone as a single published scale: income tax, ACC levy, GST, the minimum wage, annual holidays. Tax credits that depend on family circumstances are not included; the pages say so and link to Inland Revenue.
Is Hesapl free? Is anything I type stored?
Yes, and no. There is no account and nothing to pay. The numbers you type stay on your device and are not stored.
