How it works

  1. Results as you type

Type your numbers and the answer appears. There is no button to press.

  2. Your numbers stay with you

Whatever you enter stays on your screen. We do not store it.

  3. Official sources, dated

Every rate comes from SARS, the Department of Employment and Labour or the Act itself, with the source linked and the year stated.

Frequently asked questions

Which year do the calculators use?

The 2026/27 tax year (1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027, SARS's 2027 year of assessment) for income tax and PAYE; the national minimum wage from 1 March 2026; VAT at 15%; and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act as amended for leave, notice and severance. Each page states the date it was last checked.

Are the results the same as SARS's PAYE tables?

They use the same brackets, rebates and medical credits with the annual equivalent method, so a monthly figure can differ by a few rand from the printed table. Retirement fund contributions, travel allowances and other deductions depend on your situation and are not applied.

Do bargaining council or sectoral rules apply?

The BCEA sets the floor used here. A bargaining council agreement, sectoral determination or your contract can give longer notice, more leave or better severance; it cannot give less, except where the Act allows a collective agreement to.

Is Hesapl free? Is anything I type stored?

Yes, and no. There is no account and nothing to pay. The numbers you type stay on your device and are not stored.
